AI is not the author — you are

Why we put layout in a local engine, creativity in the model, and the final call in your hands.

Nearly every content tool released in the past two years tells the same story: put AI into every step, so users can “generate an article from one sentence” or “generate a poster set from one sentence.” You type a topic, AI handles the headline, the layout, the images, and you press publish.

It sounds great, but anyone who has used these tools comes away a little uneasy. The article was written by AI, the layout was chosen by AI, the style was set by AI. Somewhere along that assembly line, you became the person signing off rather than the person creating.

Easy Post tries the opposite: AI can take part in every step of creation, but the final call always stays with you.

Four workbenches for four stages

Easy Post is a desktop content tool. It splits the workflow into four workbenches:

  • Ideation: AI chat for brainstorming, with built-in prompts that fill the box in one click, and free combining of skills, knowledge bases, and models
  • Materials: import WeRead highlights in one click, filter by book or entry, and send the result straight into the article or card workbench
  • Articles: write Markdown on the left, see the result on the right, then copy it into the WeChat editor already formatted
  • Cards: split source material into 1–10 cards. Templates do not depend on a model, but AI can generate the whole text set at once

Models are not locked to one vendor either. Run Ollama locally, or pick from a dozen cloud providers, with fallback chains when the primary fails. API keys live in the OS keychain, not in a plain text file.

But the interesting part is why we built it this way.

Layout is not a job for AI

WeChat article formatting has a specific property: it is a deterministic problem, not a creative one. How large the headline should be, how much space goes between paragraphs, how the table of contents is numbered, whether punctuation gets converted to full-width — these have exact rules. Computed is computed. No guessing required.

Yet many AI formatting tools insist on having a model “generate” the layout. That is a probabilistic model doing work that has a precise solution. The result is style drift, two different outputs from the same input, and the occasional inexplicable formatting error.

Behind the article workbench in Easy Post is a local Rust layout engine that handles all the deterministic logic: theme rendering, table of contents, section numbering, keyword highlighting — all computed on your machine, with no model involved. That means two things.

First, results are controllable and reproducible. Same Markdown, same theme, same output, every time.

Second, formatting needs no internet and no API key. Even with no model connected at all, Easy Post remains a complete formatting tool. AI is a bonus, not a prerequisite.

This also differs from conventional WeChat editors. They turn layout into manual labor — pick a template, drag components, apply styles one by one. Easy Post automates that labor with an engine: you write Markdown, the deterministic logic handles the rest.

Creativity to AI, decisions to you

If layout belongs to the engine, what does AI do? The things it is genuinely good at: brainstorming, first drafts, polishing, keyword extraction, image style transfer. These are divergent, creative tasks where exploring many possibilities is the point.

But even here, Easy Post deliberately avoids the “one sentence, end-to-end finished product” pattern. The ideation workbench gives you quick prompts plus freely combinable skills, knowledge bases, and models. AI produces drafts and raw material; you still edit and adjust before anything gets published.

This is a different philosophy from the currently popular “fully AI, skill-driven agent” approach. Agentic creation aims for end-to-end automation: topic selection, writing, images, layout, and publishing chained into one pipeline, with a person at the start making a request and at the end approving a result. The middle is a black box. It is genuinely faster — but the cost is that you gradually lose control over the process.

Easy Post goes the other way: it opens the process back up, making every step visible, interruptible, and editable. AI supplies material and suggestions, but every judgement call between draft and final version is yours. Slower, but what you end up with is something you actually took part in.

Why this matters

What content creation leaves behind is not just a publishable article, but the judgement you exercised along the way — which angle to take, which sentence to cut. Outsource all of that to AI and the short-term gain in speed comes with a long-term erosion of exactly the ability you were relying on.

Easy Post is not trying to be the fastest content tool. It is trying to be one that keeps you in the author’s seat: deterministic work goes to a local engine, creative work gets AI assistance rather than replacement, and the final decision stays with you.
